Product Overview
OS&Y (Outside Screw and Yoke) Rising Stem Gate Valves are engineered for heavy-duty on/off isolation in high-pressure steam, oil, gas, and chemical lines. By keeping the stem threads outside the flow passage, the operating mechanism is completely isolated from process fluid corrosion and debris accumulation.
The visible rising stem provides immediate visual verification of valve position from a distance, satisfying core safety requirements for refineries, power plants, and industrial piping headers.
Key Features of OS&Y Rising Stem Gate Valve
Visual Stem Position Indicator
The rising stem provides instant line-of-sight verification of open/closed valve status.
Protected External Stem Threads
Operating threads remain outside the fluid path to prevent medium-induced corrosion and thread seizing.
Low-Pressure-Drop Isolation
Full-port straight-through design ensures maximum flow efficiency with minimal turbulence.
Customized Metallurgies and Trims
Body and seating materials are matched to precise temperature, pressure, and fluid chemistry.
Flanged and Welded Connections
Manufactured to international face-to-face and end connection dimensions for drop-in replacement.
Certified Pressure Testing
Every valve undergoes hydrostatic and shell testing with mill certificates provided per order.
Working Principle
An OS&Y rising stem gate valve controls line flow by moving a wedge gate vertically across the internal fluid path.
Turning the handwheel rotates the external yoke nut, driving the non-rotating stem upward or downward. When opened, the stem lifts the wedge completely out of the flow stream, creating a straight path with negligible flow resistance.
When closed, the stem forces the wedge down into the valve body seats to form a tight, leak-proof seal. Because the stem threads remain outside the fluid chamber, they can be inspected and lubricated during routine operation without interrupting flow.

FAQ
Q: What does OS&Y stand for in valve engineering?
A: OS&Y stands for Outside Screw and Yoke. It describes a design where the stem threads remain outside the fluid-wetted chamber, protecting operating components from internal line fluid.
Q: Why are OS&Y gate valves preferred for safety-critical pipelines?
A: The external rising stem acts as a physical position indicator. Operators can instantly visually confirm whether a line is fully open, fully closed, or isolated without manual testing.
Q: Can an OS&Y Gate Valve be used for flow throttling?
A: No. Gate valves are designed strictly for full-open or full-closed service. Operating in a partially open position causes seat erosion and severe vibration due to turbulent fluid flow.
Q: Are these gate valves available fully certified to API 600?
A: Yes. Valves can be configured, manufactured, and documented to comply fully with API 600 requirements including wall thickness, stem diameter, and packing design.
Q: What details are required to receive an accurate technical quote?
A: Please specify valve size (NPS/DN), pressure rating (Class/PN), body and trim materials, end connection type, operating temperature, fluid medium, and applicable design standards.
